The old boiler that was removed was grossly oversized for the single family home, with just over 400,000 BTU/Hr input resulting in a very high annual fuel bill, and the homeowner also suffered from banging in the steam mains due to improper steam main pitch and velocity.
After sizing all heat loads in the home, we installed a 140,000 BTU/Hr input Burnham boiler, and re-pitched the steam mains at the near-boiler piping to remedy the banging issue. The homeowner also had grandchildren who used a lot of hot water for bathing, so a higher input water heater was installed as well.
Aspects of this installation include:
- 4" sollid concrete block boiler base.
- All necessary controls and safeties required by DOB and National Grid.
- Professionally cleaned and re-built the existing collapsed chimney base.
- Fuel savings of ~60% annually due to smaller boiler and converting to efficienct natural gas.
- High-recovery 50,000 BTU/Hr input hot water heater.
